GRADUATES MAKE EQUINE SALE PROUD

One of the talking points to the trials to the $426,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity was the successful performances posted by four of the Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduates. Sale grads Cash For Cottontail, Hawk Mas Dinero, Its All About FDD, and Jumpn Beduino all qualified to the Grade 1 futurity to be held on Saturday, October 3.

The seventh trial produced three of the six fastest qualifiers to the Breeders Futurity, including second fastest qualifier Cash For Cottontail and third fastest Hawk Mas Dinero. In addition to coming out of the Equine Sale, Cash For Cottontail and Hawk Mas Dinero were both sired by the talented Hawkinson.

Trained by Joe Bassett for Dolantori Racing, Cash For Cottontails broke her maiden with this trial victory after running second in both of her previous starts. Bred by Dr. Steve Burns, Cash For Cottontail covered the distance in :17.405, beating Hawk Mas Dinero by a head. Dolantori Racing purchased Cash For Cottontail for $23,000 from the Dr. Burns consignment at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale under the name of West Of Santa Fe as hip #626.

Cash For Cottontail's mother is West Coast Cash, who placed in the Far West Futurity in her racing career. West Coast Cash is the mother of West Coast Okie, winner of $65,924 and the Autumn Stakes and Pomona Juvenile Championship. She also produced One Fast Okie, winner of the Northwest Futurity and Cash This Okie, who qualified to the Kindergarten Futurity. Cash For Cottontail is the daughter of the talented stallion Hawkinson, who stands at Burns Ranch in Menifee, California.

Co-bred by Dr. Burns and former top Los Alamitos jockey Oscar Andrade, Hawk Mas Dinero covered the distance in :17.425 for trainer Charles Treece and the ownership partnership that in the past has campaigned the likes of multiple futurity finalist Bikers Bono and current star Hard Hitting, the winner of last year's Governor's Cup Futurity and this year's Governor's Cup Derby. "Hawk Mas Dinero had bad shins earlier this year, so we took our time with him," Treece said. "He didn't want to run straight or pay attention so we gelded him. Since then, he's won his maiden and has now qualified to this futurity. We've been working with him in the gate and it's paid off.

"The people that own this horses, they're thrilled," Treece added. "They love horses. They'll be at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale looking to buy a yearling and we might also buy a broodmare that is in foal. We also could stand Hard Hitting next year. That's a strong possibility. We might even be looking to buy a filly at the sale this year.

"This group of owners started with claimers and then bought a yearling. Now they're looking at the possibility of standing a stallion and now they're talking about breeding horses. They've done all that in only four years," Treece said.

The list of qualifiers to the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity also features half siblings Headturner and Jumpn Beduino, who are both out of the stakes winning mare Imjumpn. Owned by Juan Ramon Sandoval, the Check Him Out gelding Headturner posted the fifth fastest time of :17.48. Theresa and Edward DeNike's Jumpn Beduino, who qualified to the Governor's Cup Futurity in July, was the 10th fastest time qualifier with a time of :17.53. She was a $150,000 purchase at the Equine Sale.

The other Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate is Its All About FDD, who is owned by Kelly Spackman and Dutch Masters III. Remember, Its All About FDD also qualified to the Kindergarten Futurity, so his outstanding class makes him a top contender for this race.
