DUTCH MASTERS III TO HAVE STRONG CONSIGNMENT AT LOS ALAMITOS EQUINE SALE

LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA... With a dozen horses entered in the 2009 Los Alamitos Equine Sale, Dutch Masters III figures to be a major player in this year's auction. Of the twelve horses, Dutch Masters III will send out ten yearlings, along with two older mares in Dakota Fish and The Masters.

One pedigree influence that seems to pervade their string of yearlings is that of the young sire Jumpn. Campaigned by trainer Jaime Gomez and owners Dutch Masters III, the now 7-year-old Jumpn competed in nine stakes races lifetime, banking a total of $187,555. A finalist in six different Grade I events, he squared off with some of the very best Quarter Horses that Southern California had to offer. Now a stallion, Dutch Masters III is hoping that Jumpn will be able to translate that same speed and class to his offspring as well.

Among the seven different yearlings by Jumpn that Dutch Masters has in this year's sale, Traitors Heart appears to stand out. A half-brother to the two-time Grade I-winner and three-time track record holder Freaky, Traitors Heart hails from outstanding bloodlines. Jumpn also figures to be well represented in the 2009 Equine Sale with a pair of nicely bred fillies in Jumpn Princess and Bridal Creek. A daughter of Princes Royal Jetago, Jumpn Princess' second dam is the multiple stakes winner Ettagos Express, an earner of $145,130. Bridal Creek could also attract some attention. Out of New Mexico Juvenile Challenge finalist Queen Of Everything, she sports a nice extended female family line as well.

One final yearling that could generate a lot of interest in this sale is hip number 388, Jess Walk. A daughter of 2006 Holiday Handicap winner Jess Sass Me, Jess Walk is consigned by Dutch Masters III and Jaime Gomez, the same pair that campaigned her mother on the racetrack until January of 2008.

"I thought Jess Sass Me was one of the fastest fillies that I've ever trained," commented her trainer Jaime Gomez. "She had a lot of heart and a lot of talent, but was always a really hard luck type of filly. Jess Sass Me qualified to the Kindergarten Futurity, but we had to scratch her after she tried to colic on us. After she got healthy again, we shipped her to Arizona for the trials to the Turf Paradise Futurity, where she won, but got disqualified for interference. We even tried to run her in the trials to the Two Million, but she came down with a bad temperature and never made the race."

Despite her misfortune, Jess Sass Me really found her stride at the age of three, competing in five stakes races, including the Los Alamitos Winter Derby, the La Primera Del Ano Derby, and the PCQHRA Breeders' Derby. Class oozes through her second dam as well, as Jess Sass Me's mother is the seven-time winner Sassy Smith. An earner of $412,011, she captured both the Kindergarten Futurity and the PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity in 2001.

"We bought her mom, Jess Sass Me, for $200,000 at the Ruidoso Select Sale as a yearling and always thought a lot of her," explained Gomez. "After she quit racing, we took an embryo out of her and then sold the mare. Jess Walk is the last remaining piece of that family that we've got. She looks a lot like her mother. Jess Walk is small, but long and looks like a nice individual. I've liked her ever since she grew up at my farm in Murrieta."
