DUTCH MASTERS III TO HAVE STRONG CONSIGNMENT AT LOS ALAMITOS EQUINE SALE
LOS ALAMITOS RACE COURSE, CYPRESS, CA... Kelly/Yearsley Equine LLC will be well represented in October's Los Alamitos Equine Sale with several nicely bred Quarter Horse yearlings. The fifth annual auction for yearlings and broodmares will take place in the Sales Pavillion at Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, 2009.
Among Kelly/Yearsley's top prospects is a colt by 2006 Champion Of Champions winner Wave Carver named Duke Kahanamoku. Out of one of Garvan Kelly and Nancy Yearsley's finest broodmares, Sky Chicks, this colt comes from an excellent female family line. Duke Kahanamoku is a half-brother to three different stakes winners including Southern California Derby winner Spike It And Fly, El Primero Del Ano Derby champion Dutch Schultz, and Rule The Skies, the winner of the Miss Blackhawk Stakes. Rule The Skies also gained notoriety recently, as she is the dam of Royal Proclamation, the winner of the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes and El Primero Del Ano Derby earlier this season. Duke Kahanamoku is hip number 164.
Another of Kelly and Yearsley's yearlings is a colt named Free Stater, a gray son of Separatist out of the Thoroughbred mare Free Bird Fly. Victorious at Oak Tree at Santa Anita in the Fall of 2006, Free Bird Fly is currently in training at Del Mar with Neil Drysdale. An earner of $889,044, Separatist was crowned AQHA Champion Two- and Three-year-old Colt after an impressive seven stakes wins here at Los Alamitos Race Course. Separatist has also been a tremendous success in the breeding shed as well, throwing numerous superstar runners such as All American Futurity winner Dm Shicago. Free Stater is hip number 354.
The Kelly/Yearsley consignment will also feature a filly by Corona For Me named The Parting Glass. Out of the Strawfly Special mare Never The Same, The Parting Glass' first dam is a half-sister to Dance Baby, who finished third in the 2009 La Primera Del Ano Derby. A runner-up in the 2003 Los Alamitos Million Futurity, Corona For Me banked $375,718 on the racetrack and is one of many well-regarded young sires in the industry. The Parting Glass is hip number 63.
